10 Video Game Puzzles NOBODY Figured Out

1. Think Backwards – King’s Quest

There are few gaming franchises with more meddling puzzles than the King's Quest series. Every instalment is chockfull of indecipherable riddles, brutal conundrums, and time-consuming mind-bogglers.

But the original entry probably has the most confounding puzzle in all of gaming. As you navigate through the forest, you'll come across the gnome, Rumpelstilskin. He tells you he will aid you in your adventure, but only if you guess his name.

So, when you input "Rumpelstilkin" and are alerted it's incorrect, you'll assume you misspelt it. (This is understandable since there's five official ways to spell it.)

But no matter what way you spell it, you're told it's wrong. So, what gives?

Well, if you were paying attention, you'll remember the imp said he was from a backwards realm. He also mentions that "sometimes, it's wise to think backwards." If you noticed these hints, you'll rationalise the answer must be his name written backwards - Nikslitslepumr.

So, when you triumphantly insert this name, you are told... it's wrong... again. By this point, you do what everyone does - give up and check the answer online.

And that's when you find the horrifying truth. It turns out the "think backwards" hint wasn't exactly true. You don’t reverse the letters – you invert them, so A becomes Z, B becomes Y, C becomes X, etc.

By doing so, “Rumpelstilskin” becomes “lfnkovhgroghprm” (which totally rolls off the tongue). So, after you input this code, you are free to carry on.

However, few people have played beyond this section, since they become so infuriated by the absurdity of this "puzzle", they never bothered picking up King's Quest ever again.
