4. The Heist - Escape From Monkey Island

Because Monkey Island has had rock-hard puzzles since the franchise's inception, fans should be fully aware of what they're getting themselves into any time they play a new instalment.

Having said that, Escape from Monkey Island takes non-sensical mysteries to a whole new level. In this point-and-click adventure, Guybrush Threepwood is going about his business when he's framed for a bank heist.

So, you do what any rational person would do to prove their innocence - you locate a love letter hidden on the inside of a sealed manhole. (Based on this clue alone, you can tell this whole mission is going to be nuts.) You then insert the names in the love letter into a story as a means of currency to buy prosthetic limbs from a shop owner. (Yes, you read that correctly.)

If you received the correct prosthetics, you can place them where the manhole was, and use it as a trampoline to twang yourself onto the bank's roof. Using the other prosthetics while inside the bank, you can find the means to clear your name.

This entire section is so unnecessarily complex, you’ll probably forget halfway through why you are collecting prosthetics or digging around manholes in the first place.
