10 Video Game Remakes Fans Won’t Allow

9. Shadow Of The Colossus

Can video games be referred to as art? It's a debate that's raged for years and one game in particular is frequently used as an example of an 'arty game' - Shadow Of The Colossus. A real sleeper hit for the PlayStation 2, Shadow Of The Colossus' minimalist design and emotional journey have struck a chord with the vast majority of people to play it; to say it has a cult fanbase is an understatement.

The game has undergone a HD upgrade for it's PlayStation 3 port but a full remake could potentially happen one day, especially given the fact that a movie based on the game was recently announced. Even turning the game into a movie sounds a bit bizarre; will the game's journey be as powerful if there's no physical input or connection between the narrative and the audience? Will Wander defeating the hulking, giant Colossi mean as much if there's no playable risk of failure? It seems like an odd move.

Above all else, if we're willing to decide that Shadow Of The Colossus should be considered as a form of art, does it need changing? After all, it's not as if people are constantly debating about upgrading or remaking the Mona Lisa; we seem fairly content to leave artworks the way they are, so why change arty games?

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
