10 Video Game Remasters That Blow Their Originals Out The Water

2. Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD Remaster

Depending on who you ask, Final Fantasy X was the last great game in the franchise before FFXIII brought the series to a shuddering halt. With FFXV still in development and no-one really wanting anything to do with FFXII or FFXIII, Square Enix decided to risk more fan derision by remastering FFX and FFX-2 tide fans over. It turned out to be a pretty good decision. With the decade-plus old turn-based combat system still impressively holding up today, the game only gets better after the dramatic graphics and audio overhaul. In addition to the improved visuals and sound, the original game soundtrack was given a new remix, which is actually pretty good in its own right despite what some might say. But what really makes this HD-remaster standout is the addition of a heap of extra gameplay and story content. There's more side-challenges, more super-boss battles, more mini-games, and even a new conclusion in the form of a 30-minute mini-movie. If the Final Fantasy X/X-2 and Final Fantasy IV remasters is anything to go by, then the upcoming Final Fantasy VII remake is going to be absolutely epic.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
