10 Video Game Remasters That REMOVED Things Fans Loved

3. Multiplayer - Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered

We've already mentioned Activision's first attempt at remastering the beloved Modern Warfare franchise on this list, but their approach is so baffling, we just couldn't leave off their other COD re-release.

First thing's first: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered was nowhere near as sinisterly handled as the original game. This was its own standalone release not tied to any other mainline title, and once again the quality of the remastering work was spot on. The only issue is that it was half of a remaster, as Activision only decided to release the campaign and cut the multiplayer suite - you know, the thing that made MW2 so iconic in the first place.

The campaigns for these games were great, but let's face it, nobody bought the original remaster of Modern Warfare solely because of the single-player. The whole appeal of these re-releases is the ability to re-live the glory days of Xbox Live, fighting on maps that are etched into every gamer's brain.

Allegedly, the multiplayer suite was fully remastered, but never released as Activision worried it would cannibalise the player base of their mainline release. As such, we were robbed of this potentially amazing trip down memory lane.
