10 Video Game Remasters That Were Utter Failures
7. Mafia 2 Definitive Edition
When it was announced that Mafia 2 was getting a remaster, there was a significantly eager reaction from the community; after all this is easily the strongest game in the franchise, and with it’s deep, slow burning narrative, it’s a title that reviewed really well back in 2010.
However, the edition that we received in 2020 was anything but definitive. The one positive that the remaster pushed was it’s graphical updates, which are slight at best, and completely undone by freezing, screen tearing, and entire visual blue screen at worst.
It seems almost insulting to the audience to release a game with “definitive” in the title when it runs at an inconsistent frame rate, often staggering more than the original ever would. Add to this an absurd amount of texture pop in and character animation bugs and you’re left with a title that makes what should be an otherwise excellent experience feel like a true chore to play.
