10 Video Game Reveal Trailers Better Than The Final Release

2. No Man's Sky

The promise of No Man's Sky's original trailer was astronomical. Not only was it presenting the outrageous idea of a procedurally-generated universe that would constantly keep expanding, but it drew attention to how each one of the planets found in these worlds would be totally different from one another.

Giving the impression that players would enjoy a new and unique experience every time they touched down on an uncharted planet, the first trailers showed these locations infested by giant snake creatures, dense with underwater ecosystems and subject to intergalactic firefights.

It was all tantalising stuff, and it quickly made the indie title one of the most sought after games of the generation.

Of course, now we know that most of these promises were a lie, and that very few of the exciting features of the reveal trailer would ever make it to the final game.

Sure, the ability to explore an endless amount of planets remained intact, but the reasons to go on the adventure - the exotic animals, the variety of the habitats, and the dangers you could find - were all missing.
