8. Free Developer Build - Forza Horizon 3

Stepping away from twitter (something we'll have to get used to once it's done destroying itself), we come to the case of flat-out stupidity mentioned in this article's introduction.

The Forza Horizon series may be utterly superb - arguably surpassing Gran Turismo as the pinnacle of console-exclusive racers - but it's had its share of setbacks. Setbacks such as its third iteration accidentally including the developer build in one of its patches.

Less tech-savvy gamers (of which this writer is definitely one) may wonder why this was such a big problem, but the tech-literate among you will have realized what a catastrophic clusterf**k this was. By including the developer build in a free patch, developers Playground Games had essentially given all future content - including paid DLC - away for free.

Unlocking said content was a doddle for those with the technical know-how, as was proliferating it across the internet for any would-be pirates.

Fortunately the story has a happy ending. Microsoft kept the faith with Playground Games, who fully repaid their trust by producing the exquisite fourth and fifth entries in the series.
