10 Video Game Secrets That Will NEVER Be Revealed

9. Final Fantasy VII's Inaccessible Cave

MK4 Secret
Square Enix

The original Final Fantasy VII debuted back in 1997 during an era where video games struggled to moderate the discovery of secrets. Either it was too easy, or down right impossible. This game was heralded as one of the greats in the franchise, but that doesn't mean it perfectly resolved everything.

While traversing to the Forgotten City, players can spot a cave that mysteriously cannot be reached and no one truly knows what lied within. At first, it simply could have been background detail to add to the scenery. Yet, subsequent texture map analysis proved this to be the opposite.

There were layers in the back that suggested the player should have been able to walk behind the cave, but the path was removed.

This is presumably cut content. Despite it being clear that it did have a purpose, begrudgingly, no one knows what it was.

Considering it was released more than 20 years ago, it is highly unlikely anyone will ever find out. There is hope the Final Fantasy VII remake will address this secret, but it is known some elements of the new version will be altered - meaning the cave might return, but feature an entirely different purpose.
