10 Video Game Sequels That Played Things Way Too Safe
1. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Call of Duty used to rule the world back in 2011, and its yearly instalments always added more onto the franchise. But after six straight years of fast-paced shooting action, Modern Warfare 3 showed a genuinely deflating lack of innovation.
Modern Warfare 3 not only looked insanely similar to Modern Warfare 2, but it played like a carbon copy too. The campaign hit all the same beats as the previous two entries, the multiplayer was altered slightly rather than improved upon and the overall presentation from the menus to sound had not evolved at all from the first game five years prior.
While Treyarch was busy trying new ideas, time periods, and improving from game to game with their bi-yearly entries into the franchise, Infinity Ward was comfortable riding the wave of the original Modern Warfare's success until people ran out of patience.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a fantastic shooter, but it played things way too safe, giving players exactly what was expected and, as a result, it ended up being one of the most divisive entries in the entire franchise.
