10 Video Game Side Characters That Got Their Own (Better) Spin-Off
9. Wario - Warioware
The idea of an evil Mario that eats garlic and fights with burps and farts sounds so ridiculous that of course it amassed a huge following of fans.
Indeed, Wario has become more than just a cameo appearance in Super Mario Land 2 over the years - he's built a whole empire on his goofy antics and greedy personality.
Matching the ridiculousness of his character, the appropriately named WarioWare series is one of the craziest and most beloved rhythm game franchises of all time. It's an utterly chaotic collection of mini-games that aim to confuse and surprise each time a new challenge appears on the screen.
The games have nothing to do with Mario and his platforming domain, and yet despite this, Wario and his bizzare ideas have managed to absolutely dominate the market. At this point, the yellow plumber is probably more famous due to his WarioWare antics than his occasional appearances in proper Mario games.
Not to mention, according to the series' storyline, WarioWare is actually a game company founded and owned entirely by Wario himself, making him the only character in video game history responsible for his own product.
Now that's how you outgrow your competition!
