10 Video Game Spin-Offs BETTER Than The Main Franchise
2. Forza Horizon
Forza Motorsport quickly became the flagship racing series
for Microsoft when it first launched in 2005. Developed by Turn 10 Studios, it
was widely seen as an attempt to rival Sony’s Gran Turismo. Now featuring 7
main entries across each Xbox generation, it focused on circuit-based racing,
licencing sports cars from big manufacturers.
Recently however, the Motorsport titles have found
themselves in the shadow of sub-series Forza Horizon, developed instead by
Playground Games. First launching in 2012, Horizon moved away from circuit
racing and focused on casual street racing, bringing Forza into an open-world
environment.
Placing a larger emphasis on stunts and backed up by some fantastic visuals, it became highly successful and led Microsoft to make Forza an annual series, releasing Motorsport and Horizon titles in alternating years.
Horizon 4 was the most recent entry in 2018, releasing to
near-universal acclaim, high sales and established itself as Forza’s dominant
franchise.
