10 Video Game Stories That Didn't Need To Happen
1. The Evil Within: Juli Kidman DLC
The Evil Within is one tough game to get your head around. Where the game is praised for its spooky atmosphere, ghoulish enemies and brutal combat, the story is regarded as a jumbled mess that, despite many of its interesting ideas, is hard to follow.
What first seems to be a stereotypical horror game where a detective goes to investigate a murder, rapidly turns into a psychological and paranormal nightmare where the main protagonist, Sebastian Castellanos, must fight hellish bosses and escape horrific traps as his sanity is tested multiple times throughout the game.
It is later on when it’s revealed that Sebastian and his friends are all involved in a program called STEM - a machine capable of uniting multiple minds, with one mind at its centre.
Where poor Sebastian has to grind his way through such mind bending hell for the whole game, Juli Kidman is able to skip her entire DLC by shooting the brain of antagonist Ruvik. Without it, the game ends, and you are given the end credits with a picture of Juli and the rest of her Krimson City Police team enjoying happier times.
You could have played the DLC properly and uncovered the remaining mysteries of the game the way it wants you to. But sometimes, the simplest solution is often the best.
