10 Video Game Stories That Didn't Need To Happen

6. The Stanley Parable

This odd and rather charming game can be beat very early if you simply decide to not play along.

No, I’m serious. You just have to refuse to play the game.

The game's story is presented from the first person perspective of Stanley, and is told through narration. The narrator explains that Stanley’s job is to process data that comes to his computer without question. But when no data comes to him, Stanley decides to explore his place of work, which is devoid of other people.

The narrator will give you a set of directions or instructions to follow, and the story will unfold depending on the actions you take. However, if you want the quick ending to the game, you don’t have to do much.

As soon as you start the game, instead of following any instructions or pushing any buttons, just close the door to your office and wait. After a few moments of silence in between the narrator asking why you're not doing anything, the game will end and kick you back to the main menu.

A rather simple story indeed.
