Good LORD does this game pull on your heartstrings. It's rare that an ending turns out exactly the way you hoped, but if you play with care, attention, and above all, goodness, this is just what comes to pass at the climax of Toby Fox's Undertale.

The True Pacifist route is the most fulfilling ending you can achieve by a mile. By working your way through the Underground never killing anyone and going out of your way to be friendly with all the creatures you meet, your efforts will be rewarded come the final fight with King Asgore.

In the other endings, Asgore is killed by the psychopathic Flowey, but here, he is able to be spared with the help of your friends. Flowey then reveals his true identity: Asriel, the deceased son of Asgore and Toriel, whose spirit was bound to a flower by the experiments of Dr. Alphys.

Asriel will engage you in battle, and, once again, you must refrain from attacking in order to do the right thing. The end of the encounter shatters the barrier between the Underground and the surface, allowing monsters to finally escape their prison and rejoin the world of humans.

With you and your friends looking serenely out into the sunset, it will be clear to you that this is how things were always meant to be. If you had the gall to go down the Genocide route, you should now feel every bit as terrible as you are.
