Yomawari: Night Alone is a creepy little indie horror gem that sees players wandering around a ghost-infested Japanese neighbourhood in search of the protagonist’s sister when she doesn’t come home one night.

Night Alone’s gameplay is as minimalistic as it gets. Armed only with a flashlight which players use to see the ghosts, players are limited to basic movement and item interactions as they roam the night streets. Even with such simple controls, this title nevertheless has a tutorial section for players to learn them. However, players are in for a nasty surprise.

The game begins innocently enough as a small girl takes her adorable dog Poro home after their walk. It’s here the game shows players how to walk, run, and tiptoe while they make their way along the road.

Likewise, this section teaches players how to interact with objects when the girl spots a pebble lying on the ground. Players pick it up as instructed and view it in their inventory.

But when players are instructed to interact with the item, the girl throws it onto the road. Poro chases after it and is immediately run over by a truck in an unexpectedly shocking turn of events.
