The Borderlands series has a knack for dishing up screwy and unexpected climactic boss encounters, and that was certainly the case with The Pre-Sequel.

The spin-off interquel concludes with the Vault Hunters returning to the open Vault on Elipsis, and mere moments after entering are introduced to the game's surprise final boss - the Sentinel.

The Sentinel initially takes the form of a stone-based warrior, but after defeating its early form, it morphs into The Empyrean Sentinel, a tricky machine-like behemoth which the player must fell in order to finally beat the game.

Nothing else in the rest of the game led players to expect this as the final challenge, and so it absolutely caught everyone off-guard.
