Darth Nihilus ranks as one of the most terrifying Sith Lords in Star Wars, a Dark Side monster of such power that he could consume the life force of entire planets. Only one person, the Jedi Exile, could stand against him, and he squanders the one golden opportunity he gets to defeat them.

Sensing the Exile’s growing power Nihilus dispatches his apprentice, Visas Marr, to bring them to him. But Marr is defeated and, taking the canon Light-side female Exile as written, shown mercy. She switches sides, handing the Exile a strong ally with intimate knowledge of Nihilus’ powers. And when the time came for the Exile to face Nihilus who should be at her side? Visas herself.

Not that Nihilus should have been surprised: traumatised by the destruction of her homeworld at Nihilus’ hands, having endured the emotional, psychological and physical abuse typical of Sith Masters, and facing a Jedi war hero renowned for her compassion, the notably gentle Marr was never going to remain loyal.

Had Nihilus faced the Exile himself he may have triumphed, but as complex as KotOR 2’s plot is, and with a certain someone named Kreia at the Exile’s side, Nihilus may always have been a pawn in a larger game.
