10 Video Game Villains With The WORST Motivations

8. William Carver - The Walking Dead: Season 2

Telltale

The overarching desire of most characters in each season of Telltale's The Walking Dead is that of survival; surviving the harsh weather conditions, surviving tense social disagreements and, above all else, surviving the threat of hordes of 'walkers' (zombies) that plague the earth they inhabit.

When society comes to a startling halt, there are surely a few who would look to take charge, shepherding the weak and unassuming through the post-apocalyptic minefield they find themselves in.

William Carver is such a man, positioning himself as a messiah-type figure to the people he intends to protect. However, Carver's gruff, tyrannical methods of survival rely largely on, well, being a dick. His 'survival of the fittest' mentality is a tremendously overused in media, and while we are constantly told his motivation is that of survival, not only for himself but his people, the player can't help but think it also lies in the pursuit of power.

But power over what? The world we know has fallen, and there is no kingdom for him to rule over, instead a crummy abandoned hardware store that he and his group have shacked up in.

There's no reason for him to be so unnecessarily angry.

Fan of ducks, ice tea and escapism. Spends much of his time persistently saying 'I have so much studying to do' before watching Zoey 101 for the millionth time. Thinks Uncharted 3 is the best one.
