10 Video Games 90s Kids Never Forgot
8. Need For Speed: Underground 2
Released in the era when teens were obsessed with cars and the idea of tinkering with them, thanks in no small part to Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, this arcade racer was as closest youngsters could get to driving a car.
It was an arcade like experience with almost endless possibilities for customisation for your car and better still it set you free in an open world.
The driving is satisfying but fun was clearly the priority. For example you could take the slowest car in the game and before long Jeremy Clarkson will be screaming slow down. Winning always brings you closer to that next upgrade and the novelty of seeing your Peugeot 206 lapping supercars never gets old.
Its important to note that the real fun though comes from transforming a simple looking chassis into a glowing, kitted monstrosity and comparing it with a friends'. The sheer volume of customisation options at the time was like nothing seen in other racers with paintjobs, spoilers, space age exhaust systems, nitrous oxide and garish neon... the options are seemingly endless.
This is a title as engrained in car culture as it is in videogames and for good reason.
