10 Video Games Consoles Couldn't Handle
9. Player Unknown's Battlegrounds
One of the biggest sleeper hits in recent gaming history, PUBG took the PC space by storm, offering an incredibly addictive and tense battle royale experience. Despite being released as an early access game on that format, it achieved astronomical levels of popularity, something the Xbox team quickly took notice of.
It seemed like a solid acquisition for Microsoft at first; they were no stranger to buying into the most popular IPs, having already purchased Minecraft earlier in 2018. It also went hand in hand with their approach to integrating the Xbox in with PC, even if it diluted the brand somewhat.
What console players got was a disaster. The abysmal port of PUBG for the Xbox One ran so poorly that it cast even more doubt on its developer as the original hadn't come out of early access yet. Terrible frame-rates, ugly textures and a litany of bugs all combined to ruin the experience on console. Things got even worse when a 2019 update broke the game outright.
Perhaps PUBG may get an improved version on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, but until that day comes, console owners continue to be royally shafted by developer Bluehole and the PUBG Corporation.
