10 Video Games Consoles Couldn't Handle

Next up is the prehistoric multiplayer-focused ARK: Survival Evolved. Releasing in 2015 in early access, it debuted on consoles two years later.

The game has been on a rickety ride for the last five years. While many a player has greatly enjoyed its take on survival gameplay at a larger scale, they had to put up with a slow slew of fixes on PC. Unfortunately while the game has come out of early access, technical performance remains rather lacklustre and that's especially true for the eighth generation of consoles.

Clearly too ambitious for weaker hardware, worse performance and a multitude of bugs dog the console version of the prehistoric survival simulator. There are two graphical modes available on the PlayStation 4 version; a blurry 640p base and a 720p resolution on the PS4 Pro. It's rather anaemic considering how many titles reach the full 1080p without issue. On the Nintendo Switch (picture above) it's even worse.

This falls well short of the PC version and the Xbox One release doesn't fare much better. While its default resolution is slightly higher at 720p, regular rounds of screen-tearing affect the experience. On consoles you'll also find problems with collision detection and the game's creatures floating in the air.

With ARK constantly teaming with NPC creatures, highly detailed environments and players participating, it's all too much to handle.
