10 Video Games Delayed To "Get It Right" (But Still Got It Wrong)

Mighty Number 9 had much to live up to. It was one of Mega Man mastermind Keiji Inafune's more recent endeavours and considering how much the aforementioned series is loved, people were expecting a lot more from this one.

It was subject to not one, not two, but three delays for several reasons. One of the biggest challenges the development team faced was a product of the game engine they were using being no longer supported by its creator. This led to them having to configure parts of the engine themselves.

Despite its multiple push backs, there was a significant amount of hype for Mighty Number 9's release. In the end though, it didn't tick the same boxes Mega Man did.

In the case of Mega Man, deaths were usually down to player error, where the player could not only tell where they went wrong, but how to improve on their next attempt. Mighty Number 9's needlessly complicated layout prevented this from happening.

The hazards which seemingly appear out of nowhere to kill the player feel contrived and intended to artificially inflate the game's runtime, which is one of the biggest reasons for why it failed.
