Helmed by husband-and-wife team Keith Shepherd and Natalia Luckyanova alongside artist Kiril Tchangov, mobile game Temple Run was another super successful mobile game that hit the ground running.

The game saw players take on the role of one of several daring adventurers who've managed to claim a valuable idol from a crumbling Aztec temple. Players must control them as they make their grand escape by dodging obstacles all whilst being chased by a horde of demonic monkeys. It's a goofy premise that took plenty of inspiration from the likes of Lara Croft and Indiana Jones. It presented players with a challenge while its intuitive controls meant it was easy to learn.

Upon release, Temple Run was an instant hit. It was downloaded by one million people within the first three days of release and received overwhelming critical acclaim. The Temple Run craze only grew with the release of spin-offs, a sequel, and a board game. There was even talk at one point to develop it into a film.

Ever since the release of Temple Run VR in 2014, however, nothing else has surfaced from developers Imangi Studios. And in the lengthy period of silence Temple Run has gradually been forgotten about.
