10 Video Games That Were Great At First (But We Quickly Lost Interest)

2. Resident Evil 6

As we've already seen with Street Fighter, Capcom knows how to cash in on a series' nostalgic value. Resident Evil 6 is a great example of this. Resi 5 made dramatic changes to the series' foundation (adding a notoriously stupid co-op partner for example) but was still an enjoyable game, even if it wasn't particularly scary anymore. Resident Evil 6 is just an abomination though. It starts off so well. Leon's campaign (protagonist of Resident Evil 2 and 4, widely renowned as the best in the series and featuring a terrific, immovable haircut) retains the survival horror elements of the franchise well, with actual zombies, little ammo and atmospheric locations. It does eventually end with you fighting a giant zombie dinosaur but that's almost acceptable when compared to the other campaigns on offer. Chris' campaign is a bad Gears of War knock-off and newbie Jake's campaign isn't much better (you just care a lot less because you don't really know who he is). Both see you sprinting from boring gun-fight to boring gun-fight with little interest in the story or what's happening. You probably won't even make it far enough to unlock the secret fourth campaign (starring the mysterious Ada Wong), so perhaps that's why Capcom made it available from the start with a post-launch patch. Definitely a series in need of a major rethink.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
