10 Video Games That Were Great At First (But We Quickly Lost Interest)

1. Call of Duty: Ghosts

It's one of the biggest franchises in entertainment history, so why are we getting so bored of Call of Duty? We see a new Call of Duty title release every single year, bringing a new campaign and a new set of multiplayer maps but very little advancement. Call of Duty: Ghosts is a great example of this €“ blasting through the campaign may only take a few hours but it's an entertaining experience (though not a particularly deep one). It offers very little replay value though and the once daunting Veteran mode seems to get easier and easier every year. Extinction is Infinity Ward's answer to the success of Treyarch's Zombies mode and it'll keep you busy for a couple of hours but again, it's not a lengthy experience. Then there's the multiplayer; the jewel in Call of Duty's crown. It's undeniably fun, especially with friends, but it lacks that addictive quality that kept us coming back for more with earlier games. Maybe the novelty has worn off and we're just looking for something fresher, and gameplay 'innovations' like peering around a wall just won't do it. Call of Duty still makes a ton of money though, so we're unlikely to see any groundbreaking changes anytime soon €“ and hey, Ghosts may just be a blip on the series' record. Without changes to future titles though, more and more people may turn their backs on a franchise that revolutionised online shooters. Some people might revel in that but we want to see a Call of Duty that's earned its place at the top of the online charts. So let's have a bit of a name and shame session - what games have you started but never got around to finishing? Was it because they were disappointingly bad or did something else grab your attention instead? Share your Pile of Shame with the world below.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
