10 Video Games That Were Great At First (But We Quickly Lost Interest)

8. Grand Theft Auto V (Online)

Grand Theft Auto V was rightly acclaimed as one of the best games of 2013 €“ it's a non-stop thrill ride. As good as the single player story was though, a lot of the game's hype was built around Rockstar's latest venture into the online world. While games like GTAIV and Red Dead Redemption offered the chance to roam Rockstar's virtual worlds with friends, GTAV promised so much more, like the opportunity to own property and influence a living, breathing Los Santos. People were undeniably excited for GTA Online's launch; so much so that an overwhelming number of people tried to access it when it finally went live, crashing the game and bringing it to a standstill for millions. These connection issues lasted for ages with people unable to connect to their friends for weeks after the initial launch, causing Rockstar to issue apology after apology and issue in-game cash to appease the fanbase. Launch issues aside, there's a lot of fun to be had in GTA Online. However, it's also highly repetitive. There's a variety of game modes to play with but they don't feel like a unique experience anymore €“ it's fairly standard multiplayer fare. Rockstar overpromised with this one massively and many won't return to the game until user-created content is featured more heavily or developer ideas like heists are implemented as promised pre-launch. It's a shame because Los Santos is a place we love to spend time in €“ Rockstar just needs to give us the incentive to return to its sunny shores.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
