10 Video Games That Were Great At First (But We Quickly Lost Interest)

6. Payday 2

The influence of Left 4 Dead on Payday 2 is clear. To up the replay value, both games use artificial intelligence to spawn items and enemies at random, as well as changing the placement and availability of some key objectives to make a more dynamic experience. This means you could play the same map several times in a row and have a different experience each time, even though the map itself doesn't physically change or alter. Left 4 Dead rode this to big success €“ with the random enemy spawns being much more surprising, there was a sense of dread in not knowing what was round the corner. With Payday 2, it's a lot less successful. The game lacks unique enemies like Left 4 Dead and so replaying a map feels very similar with next to no changes made. A vault door may have moved to a different wall or there may be another security feature added which you need to take note of, but that's about it. To begin with, and especially with the longer campaigns like Rats where you're tasked to create crystal meth for sale, the game feels fresh and exciting. Gradually though, you'll become more aware of the grind necessary to progress through the levels and the tedium will start to set in. A little more variety in maps or enemies (or a wider selection of longer campaigns) might have drawn our attention more. Sadly, it's just going to sit there on our shelves as a game that didn't quite live up to its potential.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
