10 Video Games It's Cool To Hate

The thing lots of players tend to forget is that playing video games is supposed to be about having fun. You know, a light-hearted hobby that helps you let off some steam at the end of a long day. That’s why Nintendo bring us all of their adorable, colourful worlds and paint happy grins on everything (including hills and clouds).

Competitive gaming, however, can be an entirely different kettle of fish. Wherever there’s a ranking system, leaderboards, a character tier list of the like, there will be players for whom winning is absolutely everything ever. It follows naturally, then, that the communities surrounding such games can be less than the most hospitable places.

This isn’t strictly League of Legends’ fault, of course. Riot Games’ MOBA is just the sort of game that players feel very, very passionately about, for better and (often) for worse. This can be very unfair, as those who have never played or witnessed the toxicity firsthand can have their opinions colored by the negativity.
