10 Video Games You Just Had To Play Through In One Sitting
7. Any Thatgamecompany Game (Flow, Flower, Journey)
Thegamecompany are true pioneers in the gaming industry, known for their trio of video games which are more focused on making the player feel something through aesthetics rather than doling out wordy exposition. Their three games to date, Flow, Flower and Journey, have a lot in common: they're all visually stunning, they all boast a minimalist narrative (to say the least) and are extremely short, at around 90-120 minutes each. Flow had players controlling a water-based microorganism as it evoled, Flower had us take control of a flower petal, and Journey (easily the best of the three), put us in the shoes of a mysterious robed figure whose goal is to reach a mountain. There are two main reasons you need to play these games in one go: firstly, they're so short that breaking them up into chunks seems pretty pointless, and secondly, you're being taken on a beautiful (and in the case of the latter two games, emotional) journey that would merely feel interrupted and incomplete if you didn't take in the experience in one go. Journey in particular may be brief, but it's packed with more feeling and artistry than most games ten-times its length.
