10 Video Games You Just Had To Play Through In One Sitting
6. Halo: Combat Evolved
When Halo came out on the Xbox in 2001, there was absolutely nothing like it: a militaristic sci-fi shooter with a soon-to-be-iconic protagonist called Master Chief, freaky alien creatures, amazing vehicles, and best of all: local co-op play. The Halo campaign was a revolution for console FPS games whether you played it solo or with a buddy, and arguably the best game of its kind since GoldenEye 007 on the N64. Great fun though it was on your own, Halo was taken into a completely different dimension if you got a friend round your house to double-team the campaign in one beautiful, split-screen, continuous, 8-hour purge. Having a buddy sat there with you made that damn Library level a little less annoying (or you could at least complain about it together), and this was one of the first console FPS games to really emphasise the value of teamwork and make players feel like they were there. The final part of the game, a desperate dash to escape the Pillar of Autumn on a warthog, is as awesome as the series has ever gotten, a fittingly bombastic and cinematic ending after spending all afternoon glued to the Xbox. When it was all over, many high-fives were in order.
