10 Video Games That Are Barely Recognisable Today
3. Resident Evil 1 - Resident Evil 7
I have to commend the bravery of the dev team when coming up with the concept to take Resident Evil to VR. It seemed like an obvious move, and a gimmicky one at that, but when Resident Evil 7 dropped it shut a hell of a lot of people up who doubted the experience would be terrifying.
Yet looking at that and then at its first journey through the Spencer Mansion highlights just how mad this journey has been. Across the 7 numbered installments and numerous spin offs we’ve seen survival horror evolve from clunky-but-brilliant tank controls, to action masterpiece in Resi 4, to ...less impressive but still massive in terms of commercial success titles in 5 and 6 and then finally to the first person. Talk about a wild ride right?
And now with the announcement of Project Resistance the series is once again branching out in new and hopefully interesting ways. Put simply, while the game still grounds itself with monsters and horror, the experiences are so different that it feels almost alien to the concepts that kicked off the franchise in the first place.
