6. Tetris Effect - Old Can Be New

To the untrained ear, Tetris Effect really doesn't sound like anything special. It's essentially the Tetris you've known since 1984, playing exactly the same, with the same rules, same falling squares, and same simple premise: Make lines. But surprisingly, it's everything unrelated to the actual Tetris'ing that makes Effect really special.

Tetris Effect makes good on a world where a giant Tetris game takes place in a variety of beautiful settings, morphing your gameplay of turning and slotting in tiles to make sounds and visuals in one big sensory package. The idea is still very simple, and Tetris is Tetris after all, but the way this has taken a hold of audiences both new and old is almost bizarre.

The game seems to get making something new and interesting out of an original concept without losing its essence in the process. In the age of remakes and remasters, Tetris Effect is the strange little indie that has stood out and said anything that you can make something entertaining of just about anything, and that old can be new if you put an enticing new spin on it.
