10 Video Games That Could Be 2019’s Game Of The Year

7. Code Vein

Despite the fact that the Soulsborne series never quite achieved the cultural impact of games like Call Of Duty, it still has a huge following and fervent fanbase. Code Vein is the latest game to take inspiration from the series, but this one at least seems armed with a bigger twist than most.

Rather than the dark, gothic atmosphere Soulsborne offers, Code Vein uses a rainbow palette with a quirky anime art style. Don’t mistake that for this being a cuddly little knockoff, though. The game leans into vampire mythology heavily, with blood consumption and other supernatural powers set to feature.

An open world, post-apocalyptic dystopia sounds a bit like adjective soup, but they’re definitely ingredients for a big hit. On the other hand though, 'Anime Dark Souls' doesn’t sound like an instant seller.

Code Vein seems like it’s just as likely to flop hard as it is to be a GOTY heavyweight, but it could end up being a dark (or rainbow-anime) horse in the race.
