10 Video Games That Could Be 2019’s Game Of The Year

3. Cyberpunk 2077

Death Stranding Norman Reedus
CD Projekt Red

As we enter the top three, we hit the three games with the biggest waves of hype heading into 2019. There is always the chance one or more could be pushed back a year, but if they all release on time and live up to expectations, then Game of the Year will be a clash of titans.

Interestingly, none of these three potential juggernauts are sequels. However, Cyberpunk 2077 does have the pressure of following CD Projekt Red’s previous offering, The Witcher 3, itself a Game of the Year winner.

In 2018 fans had Detroit: Become Human, and previously games like Deus Ex and the ironically titled Remember Me, which explored areas of cyberpunk, but there's not really that definitive Blade Runner equivalent in gaming. Yet...

Boasting a huge, imaginative range of weapons and an intriguing character creation suite, Cyberpunk 2077 could fill that void. The source material is gritty and tackles typical sci-fi themes like corporate control, alienation and discrimination, and if the game delivers on these areas, it’ll be a firm favourite to scoop the top prizes.
