10 Video Games That Could Be 2019’s Game Of The Year
2. Death Stranding
Considering how much Hideo Kojima redefined genres with the Metal Gear series, gamers can’t wait to get their hands on Death Stranding. And when you think that Metal Gear was apparently him toning the crazy down, there’s a huge amount of excitement to see what he produces unbridled.
There’s a hell of a lot of talent attached too. Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen and Guillermo Del Toro have all lent their voice and likeness to the game. That said, Hollywood names aren’t always a marker of quality. Emma Stone starred in Sleeping Dogs, Ellen Page & Willem Dafoe led Beyond: Two Souls, and both of those games were okay at best.
But this is Kojima we’re talking about. If there’s one thing he knows as much as video games, it’s movies. He wouldn’t turn to these stars unless he knew they had something to give. With its focus on both life and death, actions in one world influencing the other and an ageing mechanic based on rain, Death Stranding could very well carve out a niche the way Metal Gear did decades earlier.
