10 Video Games That Did Cyberpunk Better Than Cyberpunk 2077

6. Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy
Square Enix

Final Fantasy VII absolutely contains a lot of cyberpunk, and I will not hear any argument to the contrary. The most cyberpunk part of Final Fantasy VII is Midgar, and the remake contains the most Midgar, so the remake is also the most cyberpunk.

Corporate monoculture? Check. Noirish atmosphere? Check. Devastating socioeconomic divisions? Check. Lots of neon on places where, functionally speaking, there should be no neon? Check. Weapons replacing limbs? Check. Noodle shops? Check. It is cyberpunk. Do not tell me otherwise.

Wait, hold on. Are Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy VII actually the same game? Barrett has a mechanical arm. Johnny Silverhand has a mechanical arm. Barret goes on long impassioned tirades about greedy corporations. Johnny Silverhand also does this. Both protagonists are motorcycle-riding, sword swinging mercenaries. If the golden saucer had sex workers and served booze, it would basically be Night City. Wow, CDProjekt. I can’t believe you did this.
