10 Video Games That Didn't Know When To End

2. Tales of the Abyss

It was only upon replaying Tales of the Abyss recently that I realised quite how overlong and bloated it is. Once you reach the mid-section of the game, it grinds to a pace beyond methodical, forcing players to go around the world backtracking. It's not even like there are many interesting and exciting dungeons to visit; it's mainly a case of visiting X, Y and Z places, then returning to Y for a moment, and then back to Z. What makes it worse is that the loading times on the PS2 are absolutely atrocious; it meant that my second playthrough took far longer than my first simply because I could only bear to play it in bite-size instalments out of sheer frustration (having been used to the faster PS3 loading times by this point). The second half of the game lacks notable fights or fun places to explore, and is simply boring busy work, helping an initially brilliant game grind to an absolute abysmal halt.
