Alongside its gripping character-driven narrative, cast of memorable characters, and epic soundtrack, another reason Red Dead Redemption 2 is frequently held as a modern masterpiece is due to the wonderfully realised world that Rockstar created.

Not only did the environments look incredible, but its deliberate slow pace and astounding attention to detail was instrumental in immersing players within the luscious vistas of turn-of-the-century America.

The prospect of interacting with other players in Red Dead Online and roleplaying within this world in a similar vein as GTA Online was therefore a tantalising premise for players. Unfortunately, this online mode turned out to be a disappointing dud.

There was plenty of excitement surrounding Red Dead Online when it first launched. In addition to a handful of exhilarating story missions and some fun PvP activities, exploring the open world with friends was as fantastic as fans had hoped for.

But this honeymoon period didn’t last long.

After only a small collection of updates and expansions, Rockstar announced in July 2021 that they’d be shifting their focus away from this game to work on other projects.

With the developers unceremoniously abandoning Red Dead Online, all hope for the constantly evolving and engaging multiplayer experience that this game should have been vanished.
