10 Video Games That Gave Iconic Characters The Endings They Deserved

6. Kratos - God Of War III

Kratos is a real piece of dragon-poop. A one-dimensional character born out of the desire to weaponise anarchic escapist fantasies, he's spent the last decade carving his name into everything from minotaurs to tiny human soldiers.

Granted it was a lot of fun, but the character exemplifies everything that's wrong with taking such a one-note design and attempting to add emotional investment. The result was someone who 'accidentally' slaughtered his entire family, before butchering everything else in his path, sleeping with peoples' wives, throwing innocent slaves into cog mechanisms to get them working again - and cutting down former friends because they looked at him funny.

By the time the close of GoW came around, I was ready to say "F**k this guy", and Sony seemingly thought the same thing, as he's promptly gutted and killed in seconds by Athena, the credits rolling as he lies bleeding out.

Now yes, there is a post-credits scene tagged on for the sake of showing his bloodstain leading off a nearby cliff, and yes, E3 2016 has revived the character out of sheer marketability, but for all intents and purposes, Kratos was originally supposed to be skewered and left to die, which is more than fitting.
