10 Video Games That Jumped To Other Systems During Development

5. The Last Guardian

SIE Japan Studio

Of all the first party studios under the Sony banner, few can command as much artful emotion as Team Ico. The Japanese studio is responsible for some of the most beautiful and soulful video games in the history of the medium.

After the immensely positive reception to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on the PlayStation 2, the community eagerly awaited what visionary Fumito Ueda could do with the power of the PlayStation 3. The initial trailers were every bit as heartfelt as its predecessors and the excitement started to build among the fans.

Much to their frustration however, The Last Guardian kept people waiting far longer than most Sony-exclusive products. Development proceeded at a snail's pace as the studio struggled to achieve Ueda's vision for the project. For many years, very little was shown regarding the game's core loop and design. Some wondered if it would ever arrive.

In short, The Last Guardian was an elusive and long-awaited title that was set to come to PS3 but turned up on PS4 instead. Its return at E3 2015 and subsequent release one year later was hailed by fans after years of absence, even if some criticisms were directed at its unpredictable, purposefully unresponsive gameplay.
