10 Video Games That Jumped To Other Systems During Development
3. Too Human
There were many forgotten releases on the seventh generation and one of these Too Human from Silicon Knights. Easily their most ambitious and grandiose project, this generic and ultimately forgettable release went through one of the longest development cycles on the list.
The development hell first kicked off back in 1999, where the developer proposed a release across four CD-ROMs on the PS1. However, a partnership with Nintendo in 2000 proved distracting, as the developer paused and worked on Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requium. This would be followed up by Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, further delaying Too Human's progress.
Eventually, SK would partner up with Microsoft and nailed down the Xbox 360 as the final platform for the game. At this point its budget had ballooned to between 60 and 100 million US dollars. While the demo released in 2008 generated some hype, the final response after so many years wasn't very enthusiastic.
Going from the original PlayStation all the way to the Xbox 360, the game still ended up failing. Citing weak technical performance and repetitive gameplay, Too Human would bomb so badly with critics and audiences that it ruined Silcon Knights' reputation. It undoubtedly played some part in their closure a few years later.
