10 Video Games That Let You Be TOO Powerful
7. Resident Evil 4
Now before you carve my head off with the nearest chainsaw, let me just clarify that I bloody love Resident Evil 4, but there’s always been a few problems that nobody ever seems to address.
Survival horror games live and die on their ability to evoke emotion through our attachment to characters and our want to guide them to safety. RE4 does a great job of establishing this in its iconic opening where Leon is besieged by a local mob; forced to get by on his wits and a limited pool of ammo, it’s an insanely tense affair that to this day packs a visceral punch.
Once that section is over however, Leon turns from helpless victim to supreme badass. Ammo is constantly showered upon you and once you get either the shotgun or machine gun, it's game over for your enemies. Couple that with Leon’s knack for kung-fu kicks, crippling head-shots and stylish acrobatics and you truly are a force to be reckoned with.
It’s still an incredible game and a real highlight for the gaming medium as a whole, but your overly powerful arsenal and move-set really does detract from the raw terror that the series is known for.
