Shadow Hearts may not have enjoyed the kind of success that the likes of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger did, but its distinctive turn-based gameplay and eerie pre-rendered environments make for a uniquely haunting immersive experience - not to mention the fact that you get to kill an alien god at the end.

The big bad of the game, Albert Simon, is yet another fan of the familiar 'build a new world from the ashes of the old one' philosophy, and it just so happens that he's got friends in high places - VERY high places - who are more than able to pull that off.

The final act has him summon the Meta-God, a Lovecraftian monstrosity from the vast reaches of the cosmos, and, meeting it halfway in space, it's up to the player's party of fighters to snuff it out before it can carry out its duties.

Not a conventional god by any means, and you do have to wonder just what everything else in the Meta-God's galaxy looks like, but upon defeat, Yuri is given the title of Godslayer, really cementing the fact that you've just done away with something a thousand times more powerful than you.
