10 Video Games That Literally Dragged You Through Hell
8. Shadows of the Damned
The most irreverent walk through hell you'll ever take is in the flashy boots of wisecracking protagonist Garcia Hostpur. In the overlooked action game Shadows of the Damned, demon hunter Garcia makes his way into Hell to rescue his girlfriend from the Lord of Demons, Fleming. Accompanied by his fast-talking, demon-slaying, evolving gun-cum-motorcycle called Johnson, Hotspur's is full of comedy and wit. But he needs these moments of relief, as exploring the world of Shadows of the Damned isn't all fun and games.
Throughout your journey, you'll be haunted by and chase after visions of Paula, the aforementioned girlfriend. You'll see her eviscerated in a number of ways, manhandled by demons, and generally just having a bloody awful time. The graphics now might mean the gore isn't as gross as it was back in 2011, but its all pretty horrendous.
Everywhere you look in this damned city there's gore, corpses and demons. Some areas are shrouded in an oppressive blue-black darkness that will damage you if you spend too long in it, lockable gates come in the form of baby demon heads who must be placated by feeding them strawberries... the list of bizarre and unpleasant things in this demon world is simply far too long.
