10 Video Games That Made You Say "What Were They THINKING?!"
4. Bait And Switch - Far Cry 3
Due to Ubisoft's flawless marketing, the gaming community fell in love with Far Cry 3's big bad, Vaas Montenegro before the game was even released. After we saw this psychopathic but charismatic pirate king paraded around all the trailers and promotional material, it seemed Vaas was destined to become a gaming icon.
To the surprise of everyone, Vaas is only in Far Cry 3 for 20 minutes. Worse still, he's killed off in the second act, causing another character to serve as the final boss.
Even though bait-and-switches happen all the time in gaming, this one really stung. If Ubisoft never intended Vaas to be the player's arch-nemesis, why was his image used so heavily to sell the game? I mean, he's the only character on the flippin' box art for crying out loud!
It would be like if Thanos died halfway through Avengers: Endgame, forcing his right-hand man, Corvus Glaive to become as the main villain. Do you remember Corvus Glaive? No?
Well, that's how gamers felt while playing Far Cry 3 when they were learned a bit-character had been bumped up to the main antagonist at the last minute.
