10 Video Games That Make You Rethink Time And Space

6. Braid

Portal game
Number None

Making a change from the mostly-first person-centric list, we'll interject with Jonathan Blow's first offering, the charming looking Braid.

What could possibly be head-scratching about this? It's a cute, colourful platformer with a wee little time mechanic, isn't it?

Well, it is... except it's not.

You see, each world has a different time manipulation gimmick going on. One will see time speed up if you move right, rewind if you move left. Another has objects that are outside of the effects of time wibbly-wobblying, but you aren't...

It's hard to explain the genius in Braid, which is one of its greatest strengths. If it relied on one mechanic throughout, it'd eventually become stale by the last world.

By mixing it up with each one makes it fresh and inviting, even if you're pulling your hair out by the end of it. Then there's the hunting of secret stars, wrapping your head around the nuclear allegory of the story (no, really) and even a speedrun mode should you so desire.

Do not be fooled by the simple looking nature of Braid. It will catch you off guard.
