The military first-person shooter field is a crowded one, what with calls to duty and battlefields and war gears and battlefronts and special ops. It is also a very lucrative one worth billions of dollars in revenue and where games make as much, or more, in first day releases than many major Hollywood movies do.

One of these games, Battlefield : Bad Company 2, delighted in inferring that its characters were tougher and more realistic than those found in rival Modern Warfare 2, which was released about four months prior. At the time, the Modern Warfare series was the king of the schoolyard and EA DICE was looking to knock it down a few pegs.

Bad Company 2 makes fun of 'special ops douchebags' who need 'heartbeat monitors' on their guns' (alluding to MW2's heartbeat sensor gadget), inferring that characters who ride snowmobiles are 'sissies' (as done in a section of MW2) and one character commenting that he didn't come all this way to die from 'danger close', which is an actual military term related to friendly fire, but also a notable achievement in the Modern Warfare series.

Needless to say, online flame wars by ardent fans of both franchises began shortly after.
