10 Video Games That Must Be Played On The Hardest Difficulty

5. Persona 5 - Merciless

The Last Of Us
Atlus

Combat is half of this title’s 100+ hour campaign, so it’s naturally very easy to become bored when you are experiencing everything on autopilot by using the exact same turn-based strategies over and over on the default Normal difficulty. Therefore, the only logical conclusion in the long run is the suicidal Merciless mode.

After downloading it for free from the PSN store, you’ll quickly notice that everything is no longer at Kindergarten level. Every battle rewards you with significantly less money and EXP, damage received and criticals are deadly, and combat stops being the routine ‘knock everyone down and finish everything off with a stylish All-Out-Attack’.

Item management and safe rooms are also incredibly important, because if you dare lose any war with the Shadows the game sends you back to the main title screen - a punishment which is bound to have some players sobbing and wailing after repeatedly failing to defeat Prime Minister Bane.

Stop playing Persona 5 on Easy or Normal, and relive the true nightmare of being a kid in high-school.
