10 Video Games That Must Be Played On The Hardest Difficulty
4. The Evil Within - Akumu Mode
With outdated controls, sluggish movement and a main character whose stamina rivals that of an elderly man on his deathbed, The Evil Within is a challenge even on Normal difficulty. But, for those of us who crave a terrifying and daunting experience like Doom’s infamous Nightmare mode, then you must play it on Akumu, an excruciating form of torture which will have you weeping and kicking your door because of repeatedly being fisted by its spider lady’s pointy fingernails.
There are more enemies, ammo and items are far less frequent, and Sebastian is as vulnerable as a lost child. Stealth is pretty much impossible also, so you’ll frequently have to plan ahead and remember every single twist and turn in the map.
Online, there is a reputation for it being “cheap” rather than hard. Man up and, like Dark Souls, “git gud”! It’s not a “fair” challenge for the weak and easily beaten, but it is a mode for the best to brag about conquering. If you’re one of the best, then prove it by getting the “You Asked For It” trophy/achievement.
